What is a Clinical Psychologist?
Psychologists learnt about the science of human behaviour, including different theories on how thinking affects our feelings and behaviour, theories on motivation and theories on relationships. A person would want the help of a psychologist when they are having trouble reaching their goals, want help with living independently, feeling stuck in their ways, having issues in their relationships (personal, work or social), or they are trying to overcome fears (to name a few).
There are different types of psychologists recognised in Australia and they are recognised for the focus of psychology they studied. A Clinical Psychologist is a health professional who has had extensive training in the assessment and diagnosis of mental health disorders. They also received training in understanding brain processes involved in psychological responses and behaviours. A Clinical Psychologist will pass this knowledge onto you in your therapy programme.
